Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will be aired in India and neighboring
countries on Ten Sports Network. The CWG Organizing Committee has sold Indian
subcontinent broadcast rights to Taj TV - the Dubai-based broadcaster owned by Zee,
which runs Ten Sports, Ten Cricket, Ten Action, Ten HD and Ten Golf.
Glasgow 2014 games will also be aired on pubcaster DD Sports
and DD National in Hindi and English as it is mandatory to share live sports
feeds of national importance with public broadcaster.
This is the first time a private broadcaster has got the Commonwealth
Games broadcast rights for India. Thanks to limited cricket and football
properties, sports channels are now showing interest in multi-sports
events.
In 2010 Ten Sports aired Asian Games and ESPN Star Sports was the official broadcaster of London 2012 Olympic Games. Apart from Commonwealth Games, Ten Sports also has 2014 Asian Games India broadcast rights while Star Sports has 2016 Rio Olympic Games broadcast rights despite India serving a ban from the Olympic fold.

Broadcast rights granted to Ten Sports include both
free-to-air and subscription television rights, along with new media rights
(incorporating Internet and mobile) and radio rights.
As part of the deal, Ten Sports Network will promote the
Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games across all of its network channels and carry live
coverage and highlights shows. The live coverage will be on Ten Sports in
English and possibly in Hindi on Ten Action.
With the opening ceremony on 23 July 2014 and closing
ceremony on 3 August 2014, 20th Commonwealth Games will have 26
events in 17 sports on show across the 11 days of competition at Glasgow 2014.
Announcing Ten Sports' appointment, Glasgow 2014's Chief
Executive David Grevemberg said, "A key aim of Glasgow 2014 is to ensure
as many people as possible across the world can share the experience of an
outstanding Commonwealth Games in Scotland and the sporting achievements of
thousands of great athletes from across the world. Through TAJ’s efforts, we
look forward to sharing Scotland’s biggest sporting spectacle with audiences
across the continent."
Chief Executive of Ten Sports Atul Pande said," We are
extremely pleased to partner with the Glasgow 2014 Organizing Committee. This
acquisition is testament to our commitment to reach out to a wide audience base
across the Indian subcontinent with the most interesting and compelling programming."
